CHAPTER 31

(1491 B.C.)

THE WORKMEN

1And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,

2See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the Tribe of Judah (it is believed that Bezaleel was the grandson of Hur, who it is believed was the brother-in-law of Moses, having married his sister Miriam; the choice of these principal workmen was that of God, and not Moses):

3And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship (before the Cross, the Holy Spirit only came upon individuals who had been called of God for a certain task, even as Bezaleel; now, since the Cross, the Holy Spirit resides in the hearts and lives of all Believers [I Cor. 3:16]),

4To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass,

5And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship. (All of this shows us that the Holy Spirit can, and will, help us in every aspect of our life and living, providing what we do is right.)

6And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all who are wise hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded you (if it is to be noticed, the Lord said here wise hearted, instead of wise headed; this means that the Holy Spirit functioned in the hearts of these individuals, leading them and helping them as to what they should do);

7The Tabernacle of the congregation, and the Ark of the Testimony, and the Mercy Seat that is thereupon, and all the furniture of the Tabernacle,

8And the Table and his furniture, and the pure Candlestick with all his furniture, and the Altar of Incense,

9And the Altar of Burnt Offering with all his furniture, and the Laver and his foot,

10And the Cloths of service, and the holy Garments for Aaron the Priest, and the Garments of his sons, to minister in the Priests office,

11And the anointing Oil, and sweet Incense for the Holy Place: according to all that I have commanded you shall they do. (We must remember, the Holy Spirit worked with these individuals to prepare that which pointed to Christ, and what He would do, which speaks of the Cross. Now, the Holy Spirit points back to a Finished Work [Rom. 8:2].)

THE SABBATH

12And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,

13Speak thou also unto the Children of Israel, saying, Verily my Sabbaths you shall keep: for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations; that you may know that I am the LORD Who does sanctify you. (The Sabbath, as stated, represented the rest, which one now finds in Christ. This sign was to be between the Lord and Israel. It was never meant to be a sign between the Lord and the Church.)

14You shall keep the Sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: everyone who defiles it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever does any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people (will lose his soul).

15Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the Sabbath of Rest, holy to the LORD (because it represented Christ and what Christ would do in order to bring Rest to the soul): whosoever does any work in the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.

16Wherefore the Children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual Covenant.

17It is a sign between Me and the Children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and Earth, and on the seventh day He rested, and was refreshed.

TWO STONE TABLES

18And He gave unto Moses, when He had made an end of communing with him upon Mount Sinai, two Tables of Testimony, tables of stone, written with the Finger of God (these were the Ten Commandments, five on one stone, and five on the other).
