CHAPTER 5
(4004 B.C.)
ADAMS DESCENDANTS
1This is the book of the generations of Adam (corresponds with the phrase, The Book of the Generation of Jesus Christ, Who was the Last Adam [Mat. 1:1]). In the day that God created man, in the Likeness of God made He him (the Likeness of God is the Glory of God [II Cor. 4:6]. Through the Fall, man lost that glory; however, at the First Resurrection of Life, every Believer will regain that glory [Rom. 8:17]);
2Male and female created He them (refers to the fact that homosexuality is a grievous sin before God); and blessed them (the blessing was lost as a result of the Fall, but has been regained in Christ), and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created (Adam, in the Hebrew, is the word for humankind in general beside the specific name for the first man).
3And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat (fathered) a son in his own likeness (God originally intended for mankind to procreate sons and daughters of God into the world; due to the Fall, sons and daughters could be brought into the world only in the likeness of their original parent, Adam, a product of his fallen nature; it is called original sin), and after his image (means that Adam no longer had the Image of God; the likeness and image are now after Satan [Jn. 8:44]); and called his name Seth (even though Seth was not the Promised One, still, he represented a ray of hope; through him, rather his line, the Promised One would come):
4And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters (the intimation is, Adam was able to father children, and Eve to conceive, for some 800 years. Exactly how many children they brought into the world we arent told. But it had to be many):
5And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died (the family history of this, the Heavenly Race, is marked by death; no matter how long a member of the family lived, yet three words attend the name: and he died).
THE FAMILY OF SETH
6And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat (fathered) Enos:
7And Seth lived after he begat Enos eight hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters:
8And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died.
THE FAMILY OF ENOS
9And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan:
10And Enos lived after he begat Cainan eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat sons and daughters:
11And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years: and he died.
THE FAMILY OF CAINAN
12And Cainan lived seventy years, and begat Mahalaleel:
13And Cainan lived after he begat Mahalaleel eight hundred and forty years, and begat sons and daughters:
14And all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years: and he died.
THE FAMILY OF MAHALALEEL
15And Mahalaleel lived sixty and five years, and begat Jared:
16And Mahalaleel lived after he begat Jared eight hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters:
17And all the days of Mahalaleel were eight hundred ninety and five years: and he died.
THE FAMILY OF JARED
18And Jared lived an hundred sixty and two years, and he begat Enoch (Enoch and Abel are the only two men from creation to the flood, with the exception of Noah, listed who lived for God. There may have been others, but the Bible doesnt say):
19And Jared lived after he begat Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:
20And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years: and he died.
THE FAMILY OF ENOCH
21And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah (apparently, Enoch was 65 years of age when he was converted and entered into this Divine fellowship; the name Methuselah means: The Deluge (the flood) shall be sent when he is dead; so, Methuselah was a living, walking testimony that judgment was coming upon the Earth because of its terrible wickedness; however, only Noah and his family believed; so the flood came a little less than a thousand years after Methuselah was born):
22And Enoch walked with God (three statements are made in the Bible respecting Enoch: he walked with God [Gen. 5:22]; he witnessed for God [Jude, Vs. 14]; he pleased God [Heb. 11:5]) after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters (Enoch did not live a life of isolation, but he did live a life of separation. Such is demanded of all Believers):
23And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years (converted at 65 years old, he faithfully lived for God some 300 years):
24And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him (Enoch was one of the two men in history who did not die, Elijah being the other. He was translated, and as Paul said, that he should not see death [Heb. 11:5]).
THE FAMILY OF METHUSELAH
25And Methuselah lived an hundred eighty and seven years, and begat Lamech (Noah will be born to Lamech).
26And Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech seven hundred eighty and two years, and begat sons and daughters:
27And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died (Methuselah lived longer than anyone has ever lived, 969 years; he apparently died just before Noahs flood; despite his Godly father, there is no record that he lived for God).
THE FAMILY OF LAMECH
28And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son:
29And he called his name Noah (we are now introduced to Noah, one of the central figures of the Bible, and of all time. His name means rest), saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD has cursed (it seems that Lamech, the father of Noah, had been given a Revelation concerning this child. The comfort he brought, as it regards the curse, had to do with the Ark, and the One Who would ultimately come through his lineage, the Son of God, Who would remove the greater curse the curse of the broken Law [Gal. 3:13]).
30And Lamech lived after he begat Noah five hundred ninety and five years, and begat sons and daughters (but none of the brothers and sisters of Noah believed the Word of the Lord, and thereby perished in the flood):
31And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years: and he died.
THE FAMILY OF NOAH
32And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth (due to the fact that every human being on the face of the Earth died in the flood, with the exception of Noah and his family, this means that every person who has ever lived since then is a descendant of either Shem, Ham, or Japheth).
