CHAPTER 11
(713 B.C.)
THE RIGHTEOUS REIGN OF THE BRANCH (THE MESSIAH) OUT OF JESSES ROOTS
1And there shall come forth a Rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots (this Verse has to do with the Incarnation, with the balance of the Chapter referring to the glorious reign of Christ during the Millennium. The word Rod, in this instance, refers to a tender branch, which means a tender shoot sprouting out of the root of a dead, fallen tree, referring both to humanity in general and Israel in particular. Jesse was Davids father, and through this family the Messiah would come; and so He did!):
2And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him (upon Christ), the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding, the Spirit of Counsel and Might, the Spirit of Knowledge and of the fear of the LORD (this proclaims the Perfection of the Holy Spirit in all His attributes listed here resting upon the Messiah);
3And shall make Him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and He shall not judge after the sight of His Eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of His Ears (the words, quick understanding, would probably have been better translated the breath of His nostrils shall be in the Fear of the LORD. It suggests a disposition instinct with delight in God and fragrant with God [Gen. 8:21]. As a result, His Judgment of all things will be perfect):
4But with Righteousness shall He judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the Earth: and He shall smite the Earth with the rod of His Mouth, and with the breath of His Lips shall He kill the wicked. (The smiting of the Earth might be better stated the oppressor of the land, referring to the Antichrist. The word reprove means to set right with equity or to administer justice on behalf of the meek.)
5And Righteousness shall be the girdle of His Loins, and Faithfulness the girdle of His Reins. (This Verse presents Immanuel as Priest. The loins speak of the physical, with the reins speaking of the heart and, therefore, the spiritual. For the first time, the human family in Christ will witness perfection. In fact, the Man Christ Jesus will be girdled with Perfection.)
CONDITIONS DURING THE MILLENNIUM
6The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. (The character and nature of the planet, including its occupants and even the animal creation, will revert to their posture as before the Fall.)
7And the cow and the bear shall feed (feed together); their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. (This Passage plainly tells us that the carnivorous nature of the animal kingdom will be totally and eternally changed.)
8And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice den. (Even though some of the curse will remain on the serpent in the Millennium, in that he continues to writhe in the dust, still, the deadly part will be removed [Gen. 3:14].)
EXTENT OF MESSIAHS REIGN
9They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain: for the Earth shall be full of the Knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. (The holy mountain refers to the dwelling place of Christ during the Kingdom Age, which will be Jerusalem. And from that vantage point shall go out the knowledge of the LORD, which will cover the entirety of the Earth.)
10And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and His rest shall be glorious. (The words, in that day, as in most cases, refer to the Great Tribulation, the Battle of Armageddon, the Second Coming of the Lord, and the coming Kingdom Age.
The root of Jesse refers to David and the Promise made by the Lord to David in II Sam., Chpt. 7. Hence, Christ is really the root of Jesse, the Son of David.)
ISRAEL, GODS PEOPLE, TO BE RESTORED
11And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set His Hand again the second time to recover the remnant of His People, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea. (Once again, in that day, refers to Christ reigning Personally in Jerusalem. The first gathering of the remnant, as it refers to Israel, took place when Israel was gathered out of the Medo-Persian Empire and brought back to the Promised Land. In a sense, the second gathering began in 1948. It will be fulfilled in totality at the beginning of the Kingdom Age, when Jews all over the world will recognize Christ as their Messiah and, thereby, desire to come to Israel and live near Him.)
12And He shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the Earth. (Here, Israel is called outcasts, and they have been such ever since their rejection of Christ and the destruction of Jerusalem by Titus in A.D. 70.
The central theme of this Verse is Christ. Israel will now [during the Kingdom Age] recognize Him, and Him Alone, as their True Messiah. Jerusalem, the place of His Crucifixion, will now be the place of His Glory. The Jews will come to this Glory from the four corners of the Earth.)
13The envy also of Ephraim shall depart, and the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off: Ephraim shall not envy Judah, and Judah shall not vex Ephraim. (This pertains to the splitting of Israel into two nations, with the ten Tribes forming the Northern Kingdom called Ephraim, and the two Tribes of Judah and Benjamin making up the Southern Kingdom. The Holy Spirit is saying that the old envy between the two will be forever dissipated. The nation will be one again, but only in Christ.)
14But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines toward the west; they shall spoil them of the east together: they shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab; and the children of Ammon shall obey them. (This Passage refers to the long and continued fight over possession of the Promised Land. This Verse proclaims the fact that this land that was promised to Israel by the Lord will finally be realized [Gen. 15:7; Num. 34:1-12; Isa. 60:12; Ezek. 47:13; 48:35].)
15And the LORD shall utterly destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea; and with His mighty Wind shall He shake His Hand over the river, and shall smite it in the seven streams, and make men go over dryshod.
16And there shall be an highway for the remnant of His People, which shall be left, from Assyria; like as it was to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt. (From this Passage, it seems that the Euphrates River in that day will be made by the Hand of the Lord into seven rivers. They very well could turn the Arabian Peninsula, which is now a desert, into a garden.
The whole of this part of the world is presently gripped in the Satanic maw of Islam. The prediction is that not only will the topography of the Middle East be changed, but the demonic control of the region will be dispelled, as well.)
