CHAPTER 2
(1490 B.C.)
LAW OF MEAT OFFERINGS
And when any will offer a Meat Offering unto the LORD (presently, meat refers to flesh; however, in Bible times, it just simply referred to food; the Hebrew for Meat Offering is Minchah, and means a gift made by an inferior to a superior; it actually was a Gratitude or Thanksgiving Offering; this is the only Sacrifice where blood was not shed; as the Burnt Offering typified Christ in death, the Meat Offering typified Him in life), his offering shall be of fine flour (presents the Perfect Manhood of Christ, typified by the fine flour); and he shall pour oil upon it (typical of the Holy Spirit upon Christ), and put frankincense thereon (frankincense is white, which speaks of the purity of Christ; as well, frankincense is bitter, which speaks of the bitterness that Christ had to undergo, not only in His Life and living, but, as well, in His Death on the Cross [Isa 53:3]):
And he shall bring it to Aarons sons the Priests (so close was the union of the Burnt Offering and the Meat Offering, that the Burnt Offering was never offered without the accompaniment of the Meat Offering [Num. 15:4]): and he shall take thereout his handful of the flour thereof, and of the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof; and the Priest shall burn the memorial of it upon the Altar, to be an Offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD (the memorial pertained to the Israelite not failing to remember what the Lord had done for him; as well, it pertains to the fact that God will not forget His Promises [Ps. 20:4]):
And the remnant of the Meat Offering shall be Aarons and his sons (when the Meat Offering was brought to the Priests, and I speak of it being brought by Israelites who were offering up Sacrifices, only about a handful was burned on the Altar along with the Burnt Offering, with the Priests taking the remainder for themselves, for this is what was ordered by the Lord): it is a thing most holy of the Offerings of the LORD made by fire (they had to eat it within the precincts of the Tabernacle, as was the case with all food that was most holy; this included the Shewbread and the flesh of the Sin Offering and of the Trespass Offering [Lev. 10:12]).
And if you bring an oblation (a sacrificial present) of a Meat Offering baked in the oven (prepared before it was brought to the Tabernacle), it shall be unleavened cakes (a Type of the sinlessness of Christ) of fine flour (Perfect Life of Christ) mingled with oil, or unleavened wafers anointed with oil (Type of the Holy Spirit on Christ).
And if your oblation be a Meat Offering baked in a pan, it shall be of fine flour unleavened, mingled with oil.
You shall part it in pieces, and pour oil thereon: it is a Meat Offering. (The Reader lacking in spirituality may grow weary at the tedious instructions given, wondering why all of this was necessary. All of this represents Christ and the Perfect Life that He lived, which alone could serve as a Perfect Sacrifice; consequently, we should understand that anything that portrays Christ is of the utmost significance.)
And if your oblation be a Meat Offering baked in the fryingpan, it shall be made of fine flour with oil.
And you shall bring the Meat Offering that is made of these things unto the LORD: and when it is presented unto the Priest, he shall bring it unto the Altar (the Altar always represents the Cross; as this Offering was prepared for the Altar, likewise, Christ was prepared for the Altar).
And the Priest shall take from the Meat Offering a memorial thereof, and shall burn it upon the Altar: it is an Offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD (it was a sweet savour, simply because it represented the Perfection of Christ).
And that which is left of the Meat Offering shall be Aarons and his sons: it is a thing most holy of the Offerings of the LORD made by fire.
No Meat Offering, which you shall bring unto the LORD, shall be made with leaven: for you shall burn no leaven, nor any honey, in any Offering of the LORD made by fire. (Leaven represents decay and corruption, which, of course, was, and is, the opposite of Christ, Who had no sin. So, the more we understand about these instructions given, the more we understand Christ. Honey, as well, causes fermentation, so it could not be used. There was neither error nor corruption in Jesus.)
As for the oblation of the firstfruits, you shall offer them unto the LORD: but they shall not be burnt on the Altar for a sweet savour (the Altar represents the Crucifixion of Christ, and the price that He would pay there; consequently, this is a price that we couldnt pay, so our goodness, etc., is not to be added to the Finished Work of Christ).
And every oblation of your Meat Offering shall you season with salt (salt is a preservative and, therefore, serves as a Type in the Old Testament of the Word of God); neither shall you suffer the salt of the Covenant of your God to be lacking from your Meat Offering: with all your Offerings you shall offer salt. (It is called the salt of the Covenant, referring to the enduring character of the Covenant. God Himself has so ordained it in all things, which means that nothing can alter it and no influence can ever corrupt it, because it is the unalterable, unchangeable, indescribable, eternal Word of Almighty God.
The salt proclaims, Thus says the Lord and, as such, runs at cross purposes with mens desires. Every true Preacher of the Gospel will have his Message seasoned with salt [Mat. 5:13; Col. 4:6].)
And if you offer a Meat Offering of your firstfruits unto the LORD, you shall offer for the Meat Offering of your firstfruits green ears of corn (grain) dried by the fire, even corn (grain) beaten out of full ears. (The Meat Offering was not a Sin Offering, but rather a sweet savour Offering. Thus, its meaning is definitely fixed; and, moreover, the intelligent interpretation of it must ever guard, with holy jealousy, the precious truth of Christs spotless Humanity, and the true nature of His associations, which the Meat Offering represents.)
And you shall put oil upon it, and lay frankincense thereon: it is a Meat Offering.
And the Priest shall burn the memorial of it, part of the beaten corn (grain) thereof, and part of the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof: it is an Offering made by fire unto the LORD. (Inasmuch as part of the Meat Offering was burned in the fire, and part eaten by the Priests, we should understand that this symbolized Christ in His Perfect Life, but yet a life that would be given on the Cross, hence the burning of the Meat Offering on the Altar. This signifies, as well, that Christ came to this world but for one purpose, and that was to go to the Cross. His Life was Perfect, His Demeanor Perfect, His Way Perfect, His Manner Perfect, all for the purpose of being a Perfect Sacrifice.)
