CHAPTER 7

(1490 B.C.)

TRESPASS OFFERINGS

Likewise this is the Law of the Trespass Offering: it is most holy (the Meat Offering, the Sin Offering, and the Trespass Offering were labeled as most holy; the Whole Burnt Offering and the Peace Offering were holy).

In the place where they kill the Burnt Offering shall they kill the Trespass Offering: and the blood thereof shall he sprinkle round about upon the Altar (the Burnt Offering and the Sin and Trespass Offerings being slain upon the one spot sets out the unity of the death of Christ in its two aspects; at Golgotha He was, at one and the same moment, accursed of God as the Sin and Trespass Offerings, and Beloved of the Father as the Burnt Offering).

And he shall offer of it all the fat thereof; the rump, and the fat that covers the inwards,

And the two kidneys, and the fat that is on them, which is by the flanks, and the caul that is above the liver, with the kidneys, it shall he take away:

And the Priest shall burn them upon the Altar for an Offering made by fire unto the LORD: it is a Trespass Offering (the fat and inwards of the animal were to be burned on the Altar, symbolizing the vitals of the human being, ruined by sin, which only the Cross of Christ could assuage, symbolized by the Altar).

Every male among the Priests shall eat thereof: it shall be eaten in the Holy Place: it is most holy (understanding this proclaims to us, in no uncertain terms, the absolute Holiness, the most Holiness, of the Cross of Calvary).

As the Sin Offering is, so is the Trespass Offering: there is one law for them: the Priest who makes Atonement therewith shall have it (the same rule, as stated in Leviticus 6:27-28, applies to both Offerings; hence, what is omitted in the regulation of the one must be supplied from the directions given in the other).

And the Priest who offers any mans Burnt Offering, even the Priest shall have to himself the skin of the Burnt Offering which he has offered (the animal stripped of its skin proclaims the fact that sin is more than mere surface; it goes to the very vitals of the human being).

And all the Meat Offering that is baked in the oven, and all that is dressed in the fryingpan, and in the pan, shall be the Priests who offers it.

And every Meat Offering, mingled with oil, and dry, shall all the sons of Aaron have, one as much as another (the Priests were Types of Christ; their receiving these portions typified the giving of Himself).

THE PEACE OFFERING

And this is the Law of the Sacrifice of Peace Offerings, which he shall offer unto the LORD (pertains to the individual bringing the sacrifice; a part was to be eaten by him, and a part by the Priests [Vss. 28-34]).

If he (the one who brings the sacrifice) offer it for a thanksgiving (thanksgiving that peace has been restored between himself and God, due to the Sin or Trespass Offerings being presented to the Lord, and accepted), then he shall offer with the Sacrifice of thanksgiving unleavened cakes mingled with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil, and cakes mingled with oil, of fine flour, fried (all symbolize Christ, His Perfection, and Anointing by the Holy Spirit).

Besides the cakes, he shall offer for his Offering leavened bread with the Sacrifice of thanksgiving of his Peace Offerings (the Law of the Peace Offering commanded unleavened cakes and leavened bread; the former symbolize the sinless Humanity of Christ; the latter, the sinful humanity of the worshipper; Christ had sin on Him as the sin-bearer, but not in Him; the worshipper, on the other hand, had sin in him, but not on him, meaning that he could not atone for his own sin).

And of it he shall offer one out of the whole oblation for an Heave Offering unto the LORD (the right shoulder), and it shall be the Priests who sprinkles the blood of the Peace Offerings.

And the flesh of the sacrifice of his Peace Offerings for thanksgiving shall be eaten the same day that it is offered; he shall not leave any of it until the morning (this typifies that we must partake of all of Christ, and not merely a part of Christ; many desire Him as a good man, but not as a Sacrifice; some as Saviour, but not as Baptizer with the Holy Spirit, etc.).

But if the Sacrifice of his Offering be a vow, or a voluntary offering, it shall be eaten the same day that he offers his Sacrifice: and on the morrow also the remainder of it shall be eaten:

But the remainder of the flesh of the Sacrifice on the third day shall be burnt with fire.

And if any of the flesh of the Sacrifice of his Peace Offerings be eaten at all on the third day, it shall not be accepted, neither shall it be imputed unto him who offers it: it shall be an abomination, and the soul who eats of it shall bear his iniquity. (Concerning this, Williams says: This Law taught the offerer to closely associate the death and sufferings of the slain lamb with the blessing for which he gave thanks. It teaches men today the same lesson. To disassociate worship and thanksgiving from the anguish and blood-shedding of the Lord Jesus, in other words, to separate all of this from the Cross, is to offer to God an abomination, and to bring death into the soul and into the Church.)

And the flesh (of the Sacrifice) that touches any unclean thing shall not be eaten; it shall be burnt with fire: and as for the flesh, all that be clean shall eat thereof.

But the soul that eats of the flesh of the Sacrifice of Peace Offerings, that pertain unto the LORD, having his uncleanness upon him, even that soul shall be cut off from his people.

Moreover the soul that shall touch any unclean thing, as the uncleanness of man, or any unclean beast (dead bodies or lepers), or any abominable unclean thing, and eat of the flesh of the Sacrifice of Peace Offerings, which pertain unto the LORD, even that soul shall be cut off from his people. (Ceremonial cleanliness was obligatory before eating the Peace Offering. Disobedience in this matter entailed death. To profess faith in the Person and Atonement of Christ, and claim fellowship with Him, and be secretly unclean ensures the wrath of God. In other words, while there is definitely liberty in the Cross, there is not license in the Cross.)

FAT AND BLOOD

And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,

Speak unto the Children of Israel, saying, You shall eat no manner of fat, of ox, or of sheep, or of goat.

And the fat of the beast that dies of itself, and the fat of that which is torn with beasts, may be used in any other use: but you shall in no wise eat of it.

For whosoever eats the fat of the beast, of which men offer an Offering made by fire unto the LORD, even the soul that eats it shall be cut off from his people. (The fat of the animal signified its health and prosperity; consequently, it served as a Type of God giving His very Best, as it regards the Lord Jesus Christ, from Whom we receive all good things. As well, the fat being burned on the Altar symbolizes the means by which all of these good things come to us, and that is through the Cross.)

Moreover you shall eat no manner of blood, whether it be of fowl or of beast, in any of your dwellings.

Whatsoever soul it be that eats any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off from his people. (The prohibition against the eating of blood was brought over, as well, into the New Covenant [Acts 15:19-20]. The life of the flesh is in the blood, and the blood symbolizes the Life of Christ poured out, all on our behalf, which alone could cleanse from all sin [Eph. 2:13-18].)

THE PRIESTS

And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,

Speak unto the Children of Israel, saying, He who offers the Sacrifice of his Peace Offerings unto the LORD shall bring his oblation unto the LORD of the Sacrifice of his Peace Offerings (the Peace Offering being offered to God signified that peace had been interrupted by sin, and now had been restored).

His own hands shall bring the Offerings of the LORD made by fire (the one who had sinned must personally bring the Peace Offering), the fat with the breast, it shall he bring, that the breast may be waved for a Wave Offering before the LORD (the Wave Offering derived its name from the fact that whatever was offered was waved first of all toward the Brazen Altar, symbolizing the price that Christ would pay, and thanking Him for paying it, and then the Priest would turn, continuing to lift the Offering high, and wave the breast toward the four corners of the universe, in effect saying that what Christ would do at the Cross would suffice for all).

And the Priest shall burn the fat upon the Altar: but the breast shall be Aarons and his sons.

And the right shoulder shall you give unto the Priest for an Heave Offering of the Sacrifices of your Peace Offerings.

He among the sons of Aaron, who offers the blood of the Peace Offerings, and the fat, shall have the right shoulder for his part.

For the wave breast and the heave shoulder have I taken of the Children of Israel from off the Sacrifices of their Peace Offerings, and have given them unto Aaron the Priest and unto his sons by a Statute for ever from among the Children of Israel. (Christs shoulder upholds, and His breast consoles, all those who trust in Him. The Heave Offering was lifted up and down several times, up as a symbol of offering it to God, Who is above, and down again as a symbol of God coming to this Earth and becoming man in the form of the Lord Jesus Christ.)

This is the portion of the anointing of Aaron, and of the anointing of his sons, out of the Offerings of the LORD made by fire, in the day when he presented them to minister unto the LORD in the Priests office;

Which the LORD commanded to be given them of the Children of Israel, in the day that He anointed them, by a Statute for ever throughout their generations. (The Statute that these two parts of the Peace Offering are to be given to Aaron and his descendants, who may officiate at the Sacrifice, is binding upon the Israelites as long as the Priesthood lasts.)

This is the Law of the Burnt Offering, of the Meat Offering, and of the Sin Offering, and of the Trespass Offering, and of the consecrations, and of the Sacrifice of the Peace Offerings (five Offerings: five is Gods number of Grace; Jesus would satisfy all of these Offerings by the one Sacrifice of Himself on the Cross of Calvary);

Which the LORD commanded Moses in Mount Sinai, in the day that he commanded the Children of Israel to offer their oblations unto the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai.
