CHAPTER 15
(1490 B.C.)
DEFILEMENT
And the LORD spoke unto Moses and to Aaron, saying,
Speak unto the Children of Israel, and say unto them, When any man has a running issue out of his flesh, because of his issue he is unclean (the Hebrew word for issue is zuwb, and means to have a sexual flux; it probably refers to gonorrhea or blenorrhea).
And this shall be his uncleanness in his issue: whether his flesh run with his issue, or his flesh be stopped from his issue, it is his uncleanness.
Every bed, whereon he lies that has the issue, is unclean: and everything, whereon he sits, shall be unclean. (We note here the corruption of fallen nature; it is defiled. Walking or sleeping, sitting, standing, or lying, its very touch conveyed pollution a painful lesson for proud humanity Williams.)
And whosoever touches his bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the evening.
And he who sits on anything whereon he sat who has the issue shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the evening.
And he who touches the flesh of him who has the issue shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the evening.
And if he who has the issue spit upon him who is clean; then he shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the evening.
And what saddle soever he rides upon who has the issue shall be unclean.
And whosoever touches anything that was under him shall be unclean until the evening: and he who bears any of those things shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the evening.
And whomsoever he touches who has the issue, and has not rinsed his hands in water, he shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the evening.
And the vessel of earth, that he touches which has the issue, shall be broken: and every vessel of wood shall be rinsed in water.
And when he who has an issue is cleansed of his issue; then he shall number to himself seven days for his cleansing, and wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in running water, and shall be clean. (The giving of these ceremonial rituals, for they within themselves cleansed nothing, were given in order that we may understand not only the terrible power of sin, but, as well, the totality of the Fall and, above all, the cure for these terrible things, which alone is the Cross of Christ. When we read these Passages, these are the truths that the Holy Spirit means for us to comprehend and understand.)
SACRIFICES
And on the eighth day he shall take to him two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, and come before the LORD unto the door of the Tabernacle of the congregation, and give them unto the Priest:
And the Priest shall offer them, the one for a Sin Offering, and the other for a Burnt Offering; and the Priest shall make an atonement for him before the LORD for his issue. (It is amazing how deep-seated the contaminations of sin are. Even the Godliest Believer, who loves the Lord supremely, and is attempting to live for God to the best of his ability, who trusts in Christ and what Christ has done for us at the Cross, still, due to the contamination, will find sin unintentionally escaping from him, contaminating himself and those who come in contact with him, or touching what he has touched, spiritually speaking. In fact, even though we dont like to admit it, the whole nature of the Believer is yet so full of remaining corruption, that the least agitation causes it to trickle over [Rom. 7:21]. Thats the reason that glorification is an absolute necessity.)
And if any mans seed of copulation go out from him, then he shall wash all his flesh in water, and be unclean until the evening.
And every garment, and every skin, whereon is the seed of copulation, shall be washed with water, and be unclean until the evening.
The woman also with whom man shall lie with seed of copulation, they shall both bathe themselves in water, and be unclean until the evening. (We find in this section that the cleansing power of the shed Blood, and the sanctifying virtue of the Word of God, is the only way of cleansing and Holiness.)
PURIFICATION OF WOMEN
And if a woman have an issue, and her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart seven days: and whosoever touches her shall be unclean until the evening (this pertains to the monthly period of women; it denotes impurity, which is a result of the Fall; this doesnt mean that the woman is sinning because of such action, but it does mean that she was defiled; the Cross of Christ, thankfully, took away that impurity).
And everything that she lies upon in her separation shall be unclean: everything also that she sits upon shall be unclean.
And whosoever touches her bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the evening.
And whosoever touches anything that she sat upon shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the evening.
And if it be on her bed, or on anything whereon she sits, when he touches it, he shall be unclean until the evening.
And if any man lie with her at all, and her flowers (discharge) be upon him, he shall be unclean seven days; and all the bed whereon he lies shall be unclean. (Superficial views of sin would lead men to imagine that a sin done in ignorance is not a guilty thing. God says differently, because He looks into the heart and discerns the deep-seated source.)
And if a woman have an issue of her blood many days out of the time of her separation, or if it run beyond the time of her separation; all the days of the issue of her uncleanness shall be as the days of her separation: she shall be unclean (Mk. 5:25-29).
Every bed whereon she lies all the days of her issue shall be unto her as the bed of her separation: and whatsoever she sits upon shall be unclean, as the uncleanness of her separation.
And whosoever touches those things shall be unclean, and shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the evening.
But if she be cleansed of her issue, then she shall number to herself seven days, and after that she shall be clean.
SACRIFICES
And on the eighth day she shall take unto her two turtles (turtledoves), or two young pigeons, and bring them unto the Priest, to the door of the Tabernacle of the congregation.
And the Priest shall offer the one for a Sin Offering, and the other for a Burnt Offering; and the Priest shall make an Atonement for her before the LORD for the issue of her uncleanness.
Thus shall you separate the Children of Israel from their uncleanness; that they die not in their uncleanness, when they defile My Tabernacle that is among them. (In truth, as we study this, we are encouraged to come into a knowledge that sin is a much larger matter than we are conscious of; that, in fact, it goes beyond all our conceptions but, at the same time, it is within the reach and grasp of our Lords Atoning Power. If He thus sets our sins, and even our secret sins, in the light of His countenance, it is that He may have them entirely removed.)
This is the law of him who has an issue, and of him whose seed goes from him, and is defiled therewith;
And of her who is sick of her flowers (discharge), and of him who has an issue, of the man, and of the woman, and of him who lies with her who is unclean.
