CHAPTER 7

(1490 B.C.)

THE ALTAR

And it came to pass on the day that Moses had fully set up the Tabernacle, and had anointed it, and sanctified it, and all the instruments thereof, both the Altar and all the Vessels thereof, and had anointed them, and sanctified them;

That the Princes of Israel, heads of the house of their fathers, who were the Princes of the Tribes, and were over them who were numbered, offered (Chapter 7 concerns itself with the dedication of the Brazen Altar and the gifts of the twelve Tribes of Israel):

And they brought their Offering before the LORD, six covered wagons, and twelve oxen; a wagon for two of the Princes, and for each one an ox: and they brought them before the Tabernacle (all Offerings must be to the Lord, and we must make doubly certain that they are never for self-aggrandizement).

SERVICE

And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,

Take it of them, that they may be to do the service of the Tabernacle of the congregation; and you shall give them unto the Levites, to every man according to his service (it seems that the Lord had laid it on the hearts of the Princes of the Tribes to bring covered wagons, which were to be used for the transportation of the Tabernacle, when it was disassembled and, according to the Holy Spirit, moved to another place).

And Moses took the wagons and the oxen, and gave them unto the Levites.

Two wagons and four oxen he gave unto the sons of Gershon, according to their service:

And four wagons and eight oxen he gave unto the sons of Merari, according unto their service, under the hand of Ithamar the son of Aaron the Priest.

But unto the sons of Kohath he gave none: because the service of the Sanctuary belonging unto them was that they should bear upon their shoulders (this included the Ark of the Covenant, the Golden Lampstand, the Altar of Worship, and the Table of Shewbread, along with the Brazen Altar and the Brazen Laver; however, the balance of the Tabernacle and the fence could be carried in the wagons, etc.).

And the Princes offered for dedicating of the Altar in the day that it was anointed, even the Princes offered their Offering before the Altar (Brazen Altar).

And the LORD said unto Moses, They shall offer their Offering, each Prince on his day, for the dedicating of the Altar (this means that the Altar was the centerpiece of the whole of Israel, typifying the Cross, which is the centerpiece of Christianity).

And he who offered his Offering the first day was Nahshon the son of Amminadab, of the Tribe of Judah (Judah means praise; so the dedication of the Altar began with Praise):

And his Offering was one silver charger, the weight thereof was an hundred and thirty shekels (worth about $780 in 2004 currency), one silver bowl of seventy shekels (worth about $420), after the shekel of the Sanctuary; both of them were full of fine flour (typical of the Perfection of the Manhood of Christ) mingled with oil (typical of the Holy Spirit on Christ) for a Meat Offering (a Thanksgiving Offering to God for giving us Christ):

One spoon of ten shekels of gold, full of incense:

One young bullock, one ram, one lamb of the first year, for a Burnt Offering:

One kid of the goats for a Sin Offering:

And for a Sacrifice of Peace Offerings, two oxen, five rams, five he goats, five lambs of the first year: this was the Offering of Nahshon the son of Amminadab. (Concerning this, Williams says: The human historian would compress the Offerings of these Princes into one Verse for they were all identical; but to God they were so precious that they are minutely detailed and repeated.)

On the second day Nethaneel the son of Zuar, Prince of Issachar, did offer:

He offered for his Offering one silver charger, the weight whereof was an hundred and thirty shekels, one silver bowl of seventy shekels, after the shekel of the Sanctuary; both of them full of fine flour mingled with oil for a Meat Offering:

One spoon of gold of ten shekels, full of incense:

One young bullock, one ram, one lamb of the first year, for a Burnt Offering:

On the third day Eliab the son of Helon, Prince of the Children of Zebulun, did offer:

And for a Sacrifice of Peace Offerings, two oxen, five rams, five he goats, five lambs of the first year: this was the Offering of Eliasaph the son of Deuel.

One kid of the goats for a Sin Offering:

And for a Sacrifice of Peace Offerings, two oxen, five rams, five he goats, five lambs of the first year: this was the Offering of Abidan the son of Gideoni. (The Tribe of Benjamin was one of the smallest; thus we find that the Offering of the smallest Tribe was given as much importance in the Eyes of God as the Offering of the greatest Tribe.)

On the tenth day Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai, Prince of the Children of Dan, offered:

His offering was one silver charger, the weight whereof was an hundred and thirty shekels, one silver bowl of seventy shekels, after the shekel of the Sanctuary; both of them full of fine flour mingled with oil for a Meat Offering:

On the eleventh day Pagiel the son of Ocran, Prince of the Children of Asher, offered:

One young bullock, one ram, one lamb of the first year, for a Burnt Offering:

One kid of the goats for a Sin Offering:

This was the dedication of the Altar, in the day when it was anointed, by the Princes of Israel: twelve chargers of silver, twelve silver bowls, twelve spoons of gold:

Each charger of silver weighing an hundred and thirty shekels, each bowl seventy: all the silver vessels weighed two thousand and four hundred shekels, after the shekel of the Sanctuary:

The golden spoons were twelve, full of incense, weighing ten shekels apiece, after the shekel of the Sanctuary: all the gold of the spoons was an hundred and twenty shekels.

And all the oxen for the Sacrifice of the Peace Offerings were twenty and four bullocks, the rams sixty, the he goats sixty, the lambs of the first year sixty. This was the dedication of the Altar, after that it was anointed. (As stated, the Brazen Altar was the single most important Vessel. Some may argue that the Ark of the Covenant was the most important; in the true sense of the word that would be true. But yet, there was no way that the Ark of the Covenant could be reached, unless one first went by the Brazen Altar, of which the latter was typical of Christ and the Cross.)

MOSES

And when Moses was gone into the Tabernacle of the congregation to speak with Him, then he heard the Voice of one speaking unto him from off the Mercy Seat that was upon the Ark of Testimony, from between the two Cherubims: and He (God) spoke unto him. (The Voice that spoke to Moses from the flame of the Mercy Seat was also the same Voice that spoke from the flame of the burning bush, and from the Glory of Revelation 1:12. It was also the Voice that said, Learn of Me [Mat. 11:29].)
