CHAPTER 33

PROBABLY WRITTEN BY DAVID: PRAISE TO THE LORD

Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous: for praise is comely for the upright (the word rejoice actually means shout for joy; consequently, praise should be in the heart of every Child of God constantly).

Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto Him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings (music is an undeniable part of the worship of God; it is at this time, and will be forever, even in Heaven [Rev. 5:8]).

Sing unto Him a new song; play skillfully with a loud noise (this new song is spoken of some seven times in the Old Testament and once in the New [Rev. 14:3]; it pertains to present Salvation and also to the coming Millennial Reign).

For the Word of the LORD is right; and all His Works are done in truth (the Holy Spirit is telling us here that what the Word of the LORD says about Gods Creation is correct).

He loves Righteousness and Judgment: the Earth is full of the goodness of the LORD (the Righteousness that God is speaking of here is the Righteousness of His Son, Jesus Christ, which is freely given to the believing sinner upon faith Faith in Christ and the Cross [Eph. 2:89]).

By the Word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of His Mouth (the Word of the LORD speaks of the Lord Jesus Christ [Jn. 1:15]; of the LORD speaks of Jehovah, with the breath of His Mouth speaking of the Holy Spirit; consequently, we have the Trinity outlined in this Passage).

He gathers the waters of the sea together as an heap: He lays up the depth in storehouses (in this Passage, we are told of tremendous forces that would, in fact, destroy the Earth, were they not held in check by the Word of the LORD).

Let all the Earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him (in fact, the Earth as a whole does not fear the LORD; precious few stand in awe of Him; nevertheless, the day is soon to come when this Scripture will be literally fulfilled).

For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast (this is the way the Earth and the Universe were created [Heb. 11:3]).

The LORD brings the counsel of the heathen to nought: He makes the devices of the people of none effect (if the Lord didnt stop the counsel and devices of the heathen, the world would have been destroyed a long time ago).

The counsel of the LORD stands for ever, the thoughts of His heart to all generations (the latter phrase speaks of the Bible; because it is the Word of the Lord, it will stand forever).

Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom He has chosen for His Own inheritance (it was once Israel, but now it is the Church the True Church).

The LORD looks from Heaven; He beholds all the sons of men (He numbers the very hairs of our heads, and notes every sparrows fall [Lk. 12:67]).

From the place of His habitation He looks upon all the inhabitants of the Earth (everything is under His control).

He fashions their hearts alike; He considers all their works (in other words, God did not fashion some hearts to be evil and some to be righteous; all are equal, and all have the power of choice; upon mans choice, God considers mans works).

There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength (irrespective as to who the man might be, the only sure protection is God).

An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.

Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them who fear Him, upon them who hope in His Mercy;

To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine (for sure protection, man must look to the Lord!).

Our soul waits for the LORD: He is our Help and our Shield.

For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His Holy Name.

Let Your Mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in You (proper hope in the Lord will always bring Mercy).
