CHAPTER 76
A PSALM OF ASAPH: A SONG OF DELIVERANCE
In Judah is God known: His Name is great in Israel. (At the time of the writing, God was known in Judah. He is not known there now; however, He will be known there in the near future. As well, His Name will be great in Israel.
Psalm 74 speaks of the enemy in the Sanctuary. Psalm 75 speaks of the Messiah in the Sanctuary. Psalm 76 speaks of Messiahs destruction of the haters of the Sanctuary. Its fulfillment belongs to the predictions of Zech., Chpts. 12 and 14, along with Rev., Chpt. 19, and other similar Prophecies.)
In Salem also is His Tabernacle, and His Dwelling Place in Zion. (Salem is Jerusalem. Zion is where the Tabernacle was located, near where the Temple would later be built. God then dwelt in the Tabernacle in the Holy of Holies, between the Mercy Seat and the Cherubim. Due to the Cross, He now dwells in the hearts and lives of Believers [I Cor. 3:16].)
There broke He the arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, and the battle. Selah. (This speaks of the Battle of Armageddon, when the Lord will break in pieces the weapons of the Antichrist [Ezek. 39:9].)
You are more glorious and excellent than the mountains of prey. (Man must learn that God is greater than His creation. The Verse also speaks of the future days of the Antichrist, when he will invade Israel, taking it for prey. He will there learn that God is more glorious in battle than in any other manner [Zech. 14:13].)
The stouthearted are spoiled, they have slept their sleep: and none of the men of might have found their hands. (This Passage has a double meaning: 1. It speaks of the defeat of the Jebusites by God under David and 2. It speaks prophetically of the Antichrist, when he too will not be able to find his hands, with his armies being defeated [Rev., Chpt. 19].
At Your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both the chariot and horse are cast into a dead sleep. (This refers to both the Jebusites, whose army was slaughtered, and the Antichrist, whose armies will be slaughtered [Ezek. 39:1129].)
You, even You, are to be feared: and who may stand in Your sight when once You are angry? (Once again, this refers to the Jebusites, and prophetically to the Antichrist. It says, For the great day of His [Gods] Wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand? [Rev. 6:17].)
You did cause judgment to be heard from Heaven; the Earth feared, and was still (this reveals that Israel had some difficulty in taking the stronghold of Zion from the Jebusites, and might not have done so if God had not helped; as well, it refers to His Second Coming, when half of Jerusalem will fall to the Antichrist [Zech., Chpt. 14]),
When God arose to judgment, to save all the meek of the Earth. Selah. (The meek of the Earth, refers to Israel when the Antichrist will seek to destroy them totally. At that time, God will arise to judgment.)
Surely the wrath of man shall praise You: the remainder of wrath shall You restrain. (The wrath of man refers to the wrath of the Antichrist. The remainder of wrath refers to the Antichrist being halted in his efforts to destroy Israel and the subsequent dominion of the Earth by the Coming of the Lord [Rev., Chpt. 19].)
Vow, and pay unto the LORD your God: let all who be round about Him bring presents unto Him Who ought to be feared. (Under David and Solomon, this was partially fulfilled [II Chron. 9:1314]. It will be completely fulfilled in the Millennial Reign, when Christ rules from Jerusalem [Zech. 14:14].)
He shall cut off the spirit of princes: He is terrible to the kings of the Earth. (This means that, in the days of the Millennial Reign, men will rule only under Christ. If they refuse to carry out His Commands, the price will be terrible [Zech. 14:1619].)
