CHAPTER 97
AUTHOR UNKNOWN: THE LORD REIGNS: REJOICE
The LORD reigns; let the Earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof. (As the previous Psalm gave the invitation, this Psalm proclaims its fulfillment. This is the new song that is spoken of in 96:1. It is new for Earth, but not for Heaven. It sings of a new day for humanity a day of Righteousness, peace, and brotherhood. It will dawn when God causes His First Begotten to return to the Earth on that Great Millennial Morn and commands all the Angels to worship Him [Heb. 1:6].)
Clouds and darkness are round about Him: Righteousness and Judgment are the habitation of His Throne. (The reason for the great gladness on Earth is because Righteousness and Judgment are the habitation of His Throne.)
A fire goes before Him, and burns up His enemies round about. (This will be the Second Coming at the Battle of Armageddon [II Thess. 1:78].)
His lightnings enlightened the world: the Earth saw, and trembled. (His Second Coming will be with such manifestations as the world has never seen before. The very heavens will dance with joy [Mat. 24:27, 2930].)
The hills melted like wax at the Presence of the LORD, at the Presence of the Lord of the whole Earth. (According to the Prophecies, the Second Coming will be the most phenomenal event that has ever transpired on planet Earth.)
The heavens declare His Righteousness, and all the people see His Glory. (There is a good possibility that the Second Coming will be flashed by television all over the world. There is no doubt that hundreds, if not thousands, of television cameras, representing every network in the world, will be recording the Battle of Armageddon. Thus, they will be there at the moment of the Second Coming.)
Confounded be all they who serve graven images, who boast themselves of idols: worship Him, all you gods. (Then, and beyond the shadow of a doubt, the world will know that Jesus is God, and not idols or false religions.)
Zion heard, and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of Your Judgments, O LORD. (Israel will now accept Jesus Christ as both Saviour and Lord.)
For You, LORD, are high above all the Earth: You are exalted far above all gods. (At long last, the Holy Spirit is telling us that at the time of the Kingdom Age, all false worship will be ended. The Lord Alone will be worshipped!)
You who love the LORD, hate evil: He preserves the souls of His Saints; He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked. (Particularly, this refers to the deliverance of Israel from the Antichrist during the Battle of Armageddon. In general, it refers to all Believers who place their Faith and trust in Christ and what He has done for us at the Cross [Gal. 1:4].)
Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart. (By and large, the world has known nothing but spiritual darkness. Now it will know light. The Coming of the Lord will bring gladness to the entirety of the planet.)
Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of His holiness. (The word Holiness really means that everything will be set apart for His Service. And we mean everything!)
