CHAPTER 110
DAVID IS THE AUTHOR: THE ETERNAL KING AND PRIEST
1The LORD (Jehovah) said unto my (Davids) Lord (here it is translated Adonai, but should have been translated Jehovah), Sit You at My Right Hand (Heb. 1:3), until I make Your enemies Your footstool. (This Verse covers the whole of the present period of time from Acts 1:9 to II Thess. 1:7. It will be fulfilled at the Second Coming.)
2The LORD shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion: rule You in the midst of Your enemies. (This Verse pictures the enthronement of Christ in Zion, and the committal to His Hand of the sceptre of strength, emblem of His worldwide dominion. This is speaking of the Millennial Reign.)
3Your People shall be willing in the day of Your power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: You have the dew of Your youth. (Both statements in this Verse refer to the Resurrection the one to its occasion, the other to its continuance.)
4The LORD has sworn, and will not repent, You are a Priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. (This is addressed in Heb. 5:6 and 6:20. Christ is the Eternal Priest. The Priestly Order of Melchizedek was different from the Levitical or the Aaronic Priesthood. The Melchizedek Order was eternal, with the Aaronic Order being temporary [Gen. 14:1720].)
5The Lord at Your Right Hand shall strike through kings in the day of His wrath.
6He shall judge among the heathen, He shall fill the places with the dead bodies; He shall wound the heads over many countries. (Both Verses 5 and 6 predict the triumph of the Messiah over the Antichrist and his followers [Ezek., Chpts. 3839].)
7He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall He lift up the head. (The lifting up of the head means that Christ will be exalted over the nations of the world and, as the only Head, He will rule in Righteousness, Holiness, and Judgment [Isa. 2:24; Dan. 2:4445; Zech., Chpt. 14; Rev. 20:46].)
