CHAPTER 121
AUTHOR UNKNOWN: A SONG OF DEGREES, GODS SUSTAINING POWER
I will lift up my eyes unto the hills, from whence comes my help. (The Messiah here is not saying that His help comes from the hills. The next Verse explains it.)
My help comes from the LORD, Who made Heaven and Earth. (In other words, my help comes from the Lord, Who made the hills, and, in fact, all of Heaven and Earth.)
He will not suffer your foot to be moved: He Who keeps you will not slumber. (As long as our foot is anchored on the path of His Word, He will see to it that nothing can move it off.)
Behold, He Who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. (The Lord watched over us constantly and forever. He never sleeps!)
The LORD is your keeper: the LORD is your shade upon your right hand. (The right hand was considered the hand of strength. God will protect our strength.)
The sun shall not smite you by day, nor the moon by night. (This simply means that the Lord will not permit His Creation to work against us, but actually on our behalf.)
The LORD shall preserve you from all evil: He shall preserve your soul. (Presently, the Lord does such by our abiding Faith in Christ and the Cross, which then gives us the help and Power of the Holy Spirit [Rom. 8:12, 11].)
The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore. (This is an ironclad contract that requires only trust in the Lord, which now refers to Trust in Christ and the Cross. Christ is always the Source, while the Cross is always the Means.)
