CHAPTER 122
THE AUTHOR IS DAVID: PRAY FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM
I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the House of the LORD. (The Messiahs heart, saddened by the long centuries of Israels unbelief, is now gladdened by their cry, Let us go into the House of Jehovah.)
Our feet shall stand within your gates, O Jerusalem. (The Vision belongs to the future, but faith makes present what Grace promises.)
Jerusalem is built as a city that is compact together (this statement in abbreviated form exclaims the fact of Jerusalems tremendous troubles of the past, which are now over):
Whither the Tribes go up, the Tribes of the LORD, unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the Name of the LORD. (Here in Jerusalem, and we speak of the coming Kingdom Age, Israels twelve Tribes, redeemed and with new hearts, are presented as worshippers.)
For there are set Thrones of Judgment, the Thrones of the House of David. (This Throne will be placed in Jerusalem. It signifies the government of the world that will be upon the Shoulder of the Messiah [Isa. 9:6].)
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper who love you. (This command by the Holy Spirit should be obeyed by all Christians. Prosperity is promised to all who obey it [Gen. 12:3].)
Peace be within your walls, and prosperity within your palaces. (The Holy Spirit in Verse 6 not only tells us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, but also gives us the prayer that we ought to pray. It is this Seventh Verse.)
For my brethren and companions sakes, I will now say, Peace be within you. (Two perfections of the Messiahs heart appear in the last two Verses its sensitivity to the voice of the Holy Spirit and its affection for the people of Gods choice.)
Because of the House of the LORD our God I will seek your good. (This Song is for David. It relates to David, that is, to the True David, the Messiah.)
