CHAPTER 126
AUTHOR UNKNOWN: DELIVERANCE FROM CAPTIVITY
1When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them who dream. (This pictures the deliverance of Jerusalem from Sennacherib. It was so glorious that it all seemed like a dream [II Ki. 19:2035].)
2Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD has done great things for them. (The deliverance of Jerusalem was so outstanding that it was noticed by all the heathen round about, with them giving glory to God. The Lord sent one Angel and destroyed 185,000 Assyrians in one night [II Ki. 19:35].)
3The LORD has done great things for us; whereof we are glad.
4Turn again our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the south. (To turn again our captivity is a figure of speech for the restoration of prosperity.)
5They who sow in tears shall reap in joy.
6He who goes forth and weeps, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. (Paul said, This Seed is Christ [Gal. 3:16]. The sheaves are symbolic of the harvest which, at long last, is Righteousness.)
