CHAPTER 129
AUTHOR UNKNOWN: A PRAYER FOR JUDGMENT FOR THOSE WHO AFFLICT ISRAEL
Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, may Israel now say (the Speaker here is the Messiah; here He recalls Israels struggles in her beginnings as a nation):
Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me. (The Hamans, the Herods, and the Hitlers have repeatedly tried to destroy Israel. They have all failed!)
The plowers plowed upon my back: they made long their furrows. (This pertains to Israel while in Egyptian slavery [Ex. 2:2324].)
The LORD is righteous: He has cut asunder the cords of the wicked. (This statement, Jehovah is righteous, is placed in the center of this Psalm. It vindicates His actions in permitting the past and future afflictions of His People.)
Let them all be confounded and turned back who hate Zion. (This prayer was prayed by the Messiah and is, therefore, guaranteed of fulfillment.)
Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withers afore it grows up. (The prediction is clear all who oppose Israel, including the Antichrist, will wither.)
Wherewith the mower fills not his hand; nor he who binds sheaves his bosom. (In this Passage, the Antichrist is likened to the mower. He will not fill his hand nor gather profit from his invasion of Israel, which will take place in the middle of the Great Tribulation, and at its conclusion.)
Neither do they which go by say, The blessing of the LORD be upon you: we bless you in the Name of the LORD. (The sense of this Verse is that even though Israel has long strayed from God, still, their oppressor will have no blessing from the Lord.)
