CHAPTER 131
THE AUTHOR IS DAVID: HUMILITY BEFORE THE LORD
1LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor my eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me. (This is a Song of Triumph. It speaks of humility, which is, in fact, the greatest Triumph of all.)
2Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child. (Even though David wrote these Words, the Messiah is the Speaker and, thereby, the Subject of this Song. The sense of this Verse is that, as a weaned child submits its will to that of its mother, so will the Messiah, as Gods perfect king, be wholly subject to God; by ruling in His fear, this will form a contrast to self-willed human kings.)
3Let Israel hope in the LORD from henceforth and forever. (She is to do this because the character of the King is such that a perfect government will be enjoyed by His subjects, and Israel will dwell in peace.)
