CHAPTER 132
THE AUTHOR IS DAVID: WORSHIP AND BLESSINGS WITH THE RETURN OF THE ARK
LORD, remember David, and all his afflictions (this Psalm contains a Prayer and a Promise and, as always, the Promise exceeds the Prayer in Grace):
How he swore unto the LORD, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob (the Vow that David makes concerns the bringing of the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem);
Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed;
I will not give sleep to my eyes, or slumber to my eyelids,
Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob. (It is obvious that David has placed the business of Israel and his own occupation aside, with his total attention being given to the bringing of the Ark to Jerusalem.)
Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood. (If this is to be taken literally, the implications are woeful and give us an indication of the terrible spiritual plight of Israel under Saul. It seems it was little known at this time as to exactly where the Ark of the Covenant actually was.)
We will go into His Tabernacles: we will worship at His footstool. (This is the indication that God has chosen Jerusalem as the appointed place for His Name. This is the first time the Ark will reside in Zion at Jerusalem.)
Arise, O LORD, into Your rest; You, and the Ark of Your strength. (David, no doubt, was referring to the great Prophecy of Moses, as given in Num. 10:3536.)
Let Your Priests be clothed with Righteousness; and let Your Saints shout for joy. (There can be tremendous religious activity without the presence of the Ark, but there can be no real joy. Only His Presence provides such.)
For Your servant Davids sake turn not away the face of Your anointed. (Three men were prominently associated with the Ark of Israel: Eli, the Priest; Samuel, the Prophet; and David, the king. They all sinned and failed, but in Him Whom they typified there is not, nor can there be, sin or failure.)
The LORD has sworn in truth unto David; He will not turn from it; Of the fruit of your body will I set upon your throne.
If your children will keep My Covenant and My Testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon your throne forevermore. (This will be fulfilled in totality in the coming Kingdom Age, and will continue forever.)
For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His habitation.
This is My rest forever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it. (Satan has ever contested this Promise of God concerning Zion and Jerusalem. Presently, the Muslims claim the city for Muhammad. The Jews claim it for the Promises, of which this is but one. While the contest may be fierce, nevertheless, the following Verses will be fulfilled.)
I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread. (This is a Promise that the Government of the Lord will prosper. This will take place during the coming Kingdom Age, when Christ rules in Zion.)
I will also clothe her Priests with Salvation: and her Saints shall shout aloud for joy. (In Verse Fifteen, we have the Promise of material and financial prosperity concerning the coming days of Jerusalem. In this Verse, we have the Promise of coming Holy Spirit Revival. That which Israel rejected on the Day of Pentecost, they will now accept.)
There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for My Anointed. (The word horn represents power and authority that will be held by Jesus Christ. My Anointed refers directly to Christ.)
His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon Himself shall His crown flourish. (We are told here that the prosperity of the Son of David will be forever, and His dominion will be likewise [Dan. 2:35].)
